Ahmed Sa'ad Outdoes Himself This Ramadan In "Ar-Rahman"

Egyptian man of the blues Ahmed Sa'ad is releasing a number of religious themed songs for this Ramadan, and I am impressed by how well those songs are done. For starter, you cannot get a more perfect voice for such songs than that on Ahmed Sa'ad.

He gets in the zone and brings you along with him as he voices some of those 99 names for Allah. His supplication heads straight to the heart, I know, it;s true in my case. I do not know where Ahmed has been hiding his talent, he should more of those songs as his flow and his pronunciation is ideal.

The Hit Show "The Voice" Gets The Arab Version

or maybe it's the Lebanese version. What has been done right so far, is the judges, the management has picked 4 awesome names in Arabic music who truly can sing and have a reputation for their strong voices and their musical knowledge.  AS far as the business is concerned, the intellectual property rights of the show belong to Talpa Holding, while Sony Pictures Television (STP) Arabia- representing Talpa formats in the region - is the co-production company.

This American show is now landing in Arabia and the masses are unsure what to make of another show that will waste more of people's time to pick talents who might never make it in this world again. MBC is hosting the show in the same format, 4 judges, they hear the voice, not see the person singing and then make their call. The person who likes the voice will be a mentor for the guest.

They already had a press conference about it and people are starting to talk about this high caliber show with big names like of Assi Hallani (Lebanon), Kathem Al Saher (Iraq), Sherine (Egypt) and Saber El Robaei (Tunisia). I would not watch the show, but I will follow its news.

Following the exclusive rights to broadcast the international TV show 'The Voice' in the MENA region on MBC1, MBC Group revealed the four star “coaches” of the show:

Kadim Al Sahir, Sherine Abdel Wahab, Saber Al Roba’ei and Assi El Hellani. The program will be hosted by Egyptian actor Mohamed Karim. This is a sing of the great recession that Arabic music have been seeing since the Arab Spring started.

Karl Wolf Is Big Deal, Just Ask Sandy

Pop is always looking for new ways it can stay relevant and stay kin business. Duets tend to work well that way. While most singers hope for a duet with another singer who speaks their language, that's not always the case.

Canadian singer Karl Wolf is working on a new song and music video with an Egyptian singer--who happens to also be an eye candy and goes by the name Sandy. I am looking at behind the scenes footage and I see a full bar with bubbly. The music video is bring filmed in Dubai where Sandy's favorite director is based.

Keep on mind, Karl is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He has been a singer, songwriter and producer since 2001. He is very proud of his Lebanese heritage. Apparently, there's a scene where Sandy is putting her makeup on in the bathroom and Karl is surrounding be females yet he is still looking for love.

It seems that Karl really likes Sandy as they are planning a number of concerts together. I think this is a healthy collaboration, Karl need Egypt and Sandy is the ticket there. Sandy needs to prop up her resume in Lebanon and outside, Karl might help

Najah Salem, One More Underrated Lebanese Diva

 Najah called Egypt a home and never forgotten that Egypt opened its arms to this lady when she needed a place to live away form the wars. Najah Salam is a Lebanese singer and actress. Born in Beirut on March 13 1931, the daughter of a prominent poet and lutenist, known throughout the Arab world. Like many of her peers Najah started singing in school choirs until 1948, when her father embarked in Cairo to present her to the likes of Oum Kalthoum, Farid Al Atrash, Asmahan.

Her first works came in 1949, as she performed in Ramallah, Baghdad, and Damascus etc. She returned in 1950 to Lebanon to record on Lebanese television some new songs which are Ala Masrahika Ya Dunia, and to also play in several films such as Ala kifek, Ibnu Duat, Alchab Al Asmar, Al Dunia LamaTadhak. She is a Lebanese singer who has masted various styles of singing including the Lebanese folklore songs. .
But Najah's rise to fame came to light in 1956 when her love of pan-Arabism brought her many fans and she traveled to places like Tunisia and Algeria. In 1956 she has also appeared in Cannes where she brought her film to the festival goers.

It wasn't until between 1970 and 1974, when Najah visited each single Arab country and performed there. Her Lebanese songs are far more famous than the ones she did, even though most of her other songs were inspired by Oum Kalthoum. One of the many titled Najah has earned is the one closest to her heart-- Ashikat Masr, the one who swooned by Egypt.

She left Lebanon for years during the war years, and only returned toward the end of her career where she did her country proud and helped enrich the music scene. Najah Salem's musical adventures stand as a testament to our life of live and love of all things gorgeous.

Some Pop Songs Are Nothing But Audio Porn

While pop songs are meant to be happy and catchy, some singers mistake pop songs for something else. Singers singing and using that seducing voice and making all those noises associated with sexual acts. I have first heard those songs here in the States. But such have been crossing over to other parts of the world including Arabia.

It starts when a untalented singer (a lazy artist with no ideas also) and a horny consumer. Such songs exist in both Lebanon and Egypt and both males and females have used them. But in general, female Lebanese singers and Egyptian male singers have song such songs. I do not care to name names, but those songs are all around us. I have a dozen names of artists who have dabbled into songs of this nature, where there are sexually suggestive language.

I find Lebanese pop filled with such songs, and Egyptian Sha'abi music as well. The artist is not the only one to blame, listeners should also get the blame. But ultimately, it's the fault of the company and the network that promotes such flits that can only comes form lazy and people who have expired artistically.

Feel Free To Hate That Shithead Tamer Hosny

I cannot help it, but I still cannot stomach this guy anymore. He might have recorded some big songs--in his world, but he is still a tiny little guy. He traveled to Hollywood trying to get the attention of people around the Arab World, no body seemed to tune in.

Now he has a concert in Morocco, where he saw a big and warm reception. I will not argue with that, he is a star but those who got no education and those who are glued to their TV screens. He did hold a pres conference while there. Remember the old Tamer would never talk to anybody and he would never take questions. He now has to blame the humble boy game.

He danced on the stage and tried to pretend everything is ok. Here's the sad reality, he will not sell a big concert in Egypt. He won't, he might pack it with his buddies and friends for free, but few would pay a dime to see him. His concert was free for the masses in Morocco. He even went to Jordan for another concert and spoke to the pres.

It looks like the uni-brows are back this summer. Some journalist actually said something pretty cool. "I wish you have not made your movies" Tamer tried to play it cool and saying he made money! This is not about art anymore, he is all about the money, little misguided teenagers and zombies.

REVIEW: The Red Rose Album By Samo البوم سامو زين - الورد الاحمر

 The flirtatious album of the year has arrived and it has the signature of Syria's biggest pop star Samo Zaen. Samo is a household in Egypt--the biggest music market where most singers are now based. Unlike so many others, Samo has stayed in Egypt and maybe the fact that Syria seems to been fire has something to do with that.

The all tracks give Samo's fans plenty to smile about, as they will dance, they will romance, and they will cry. Samo knows well how to transition from one note to another without cheapening the experience. Changing mood in one album is important to appeal to more people.

I would buy this album and I ask you to do so....this one will be around for some time. Samo leads the way now in releasing an album in a critical time politically and so close to Ramadan. I wish one day, I can see Samo in a live concert, I am sure he will be a treat.

08 - Faris A7lemek, guy tells a girl he wants to be all she wants him to be, dreamy track with gooey music
09 - Ana Mosta3ad, I like the instruments on this track. Samo might have another song where to turn into a music video, a dramatic song with a big heart and regrets.
10 - Beta7lawy ( Remix ), a remix of a good song even made more club friendly, I would drive a stolen car to this music, but for now it's a good song to operate a heavy machinery to. 
11 - 7elemt Beeky ( Remix ) this one is made again for yet another club experience, I like the foreign language and the Euro feel.

Mado Annoys The Military Establishment in Egypt

He comes across as a singer who has little fear, and he was one of the early voices that has criticized the military and its actions in Egypt. He is no fan of the SCAF and its old school generals with those outdated ideas. So Mado has been making music that many realize only now is timely.

That's the makeup of a visionary. While Mado has little to lose, the army tried to divide and conquer approach. While in general just about every Egyptian has deep rooted respect for their army--most are skeptical of the army's intention and actions.

I am sure the Egyptian army is one awesome army that loves the homeland, but at this point, I am afraid its leadership has been dragging them into the mud and with it most of Egypt. So Mado makes takes one shot after another and he has been increasingly bold.

I think some of the young activists also need to cool it too. However, this thing is not going to be over soon. No one gives away power unless they are forced to.

Kameltny (Hatem Fahmy's song) By Composer: Amir Ali

Sometimes, a cover does an original song a huge favor. Few can remember that this song came form pop star Hatem Fahmy, I may have heard it but I do not recall thinking it was any good. Now thought, I get a cover from the composer of the song Amir Ali.

Not sure what prompts a composer to release a song of his work using his own voice after he has given it to another singer. But in some instants, the original song gets buried and since a singer works so hard on it, he thinks it should get heard.

For a pop song, this is pretty entertaining.

The all Egyptian rapper strikes once again with a song about the fools who pretend to know about political and dabble into talking on the subject. While I disagree and I think all people should be able to entitled to their opinions, I did enjoy the song.

Takki is a popular rapper who has stayed out of the spotlight for some time now, until he released his latest rap song about politicians and politics in Egypt at the moment. Takki is still a member of the MTM band and he is working on a music video for this song of his.

Takki wrote the lyrics and the music himself and as I can tell, many in the virtual world loved have expressed love for this song prompting Takki to make a music video for his single.

فيلم الالماني All Songs From Thug Life "El Almany"

Egyptian cinema is raving about a movie with the title El-Almany which means the German. A movie that chronicles the life of a street thug in Egypt. If you have not noticed, there are many street thugs in Egypt at the moment. And those people all have stories, they steal things, intimidate people, hurt people and sometimes kill them. Chaos brings out the worst in humanity.

To market the movie, the producers have hired a drove of popular folksy singer to sing for the movie. Those songs are in the Sha'abi style. The music of the poor people and the places where the call home. The same places are also the home of many of those thugs.

All commentators are not too happy about thugs, but most are not too pleased with this kind of music either. To be frank, the movie needs to sell and make money. I think this will be establishing the lead actor in the film, Mohammed Ramadan as a box officer sensation.

Egypt Lost In 1967, This Song Offered Hope

Israel attacked Egypt in 1967 and sneakingly destroyed that country's ability to fight back. Israel occupied The Sinai Desert, Gaza, The West Bank, East Jerusalem and The Golan Heights. Not too many movies in Egypt dealt with the loss, but the entire country and along with it the rest of the Arab nations were humiliated by this defeat.

But Egypt went back to work and did what they wanted to do in 1973. However, a movie that was produced in 1972 dealt with the 1967 loss, and evoked so many memories of unity and call to arms. You see a legendary actor Mahmoud Yaseen standing in for Egypt and talking about the war. The song is titled, long lives your smile Egypt.

The movies tells the story of an Army unit that held their ground and refused to retreat even though the Egyptian army has bailed out on them. It's a movies about real heroes. The movie's title is a "Song on the Passage/Path" You see an Egyptian army officer deliver one line that always goes on my mind which is, "Are We Going to defeat Them With a Song? "

This Song Lampoon The Brotherhood In Egypt

The song was supposed to market a movie, but someone thought the lyrics go well to explain to the common man the issue many have with the brotherhood or the Ikhwan. I am not one of those who fear them, I do not particularly care for them either.

I do think that they should do a better job explaining themselves and the things they can do for the country. Instead, they get caught in side fights about religious outfits and women matters. Anyhow, I think the song is funny and I think it speaks about all things Egyptian at the moment.

Love it or hate it, it's all about humor. People who have a sense of humor are the ones that matter, those who do not lugh, do not tend to live long. Hisham Abbas might not like that his video is bring used for this end, but something tells me, he would not be rooting for the brotherhood.

Umm Kulthum is a star that compares to no one. She has her own category that where she rules as the sole royal. Her voice and style are only her own. But what made her the legend she has become is the love and dedication of her fans to her music. She started singing since she was a little girl and in the early and late twenties she lunched her won career on radio and concert halls around Egypt.

She kept singing for close to 50 years. Recently, the house of opera in Egypt opened up a room that has not been opened for a long time, and there they found a national treasure. 80 to a 100 records of some of the finest songs by Oum Kalthoum. Those songs came out early on her career, and now they have the records of such songs. Among the best discoveries is an old recording of her "ان كنت اسامح" If I am to forgive...you can hear the shaky recording and the voice of that era that we long to.

 It was recorded in 1928 and established a new star that will go on and conquer the hearts of a nation. Other records were also found in that room for other artists dating back to 1932. Here's the song that told them in 1928 Oum Kalthoum is really something like no other.

Sara Adel From K Music Comes The Good Stuff

When you are young, you like what young people like. But in Egypt the young people are into politics and activism, so you do that now. Sara, Adel released one of those super mature songs on behalf of Egypt. The song that made it by for Sara is Ana Masrya....I am Egyptian but that was some time ago.

Sara followed her hit song with a new song also for the homeland, the song is about the fears of many Egyptians have at the moment. The honeydew sweet voice--I detect a bit of Assalah style- delivers this song with a broken heart. It's a prayer asking for the difficulty to pass and how much she loves Egypt.

This is an assuring song from apolitical voice who puts Egypt ahead of all. K music did well by signing up Sara Adel to their label.

Shafica, Egypt's Poor Man Diva الفنانه شفيقه

When you get millions of YouTube hits you are no longer anonymous. This is my answer to critics of Shafica, the Egyptian diva that appeals to the forgotten people around Egypt. She is one of the leading lady of folklore sh'abi style music. That entails singing in broken Arabic and telling sad tales about love and betrayal.

Shafica has released three albums throughout her career, they are all below with covers and track lists. I have also included two videos from popular songs of hers. She is the daughter of the sea city of Alexandria where people have their own style of pretty much every and anything. There is also that Greek Egyptian fusion that you see all around this historic city.

If any Westerner wanted to hear rock music from the Arab world, they will sure have to check out this album from Cairokee 2012 who have just released their freshest album. Now Arabs  will also enjoy the different yet pleasant music. These guys can get their guitar to dance the way they want it to and make it seems effortless.

As far as the lyrics go, those lyrics represent a fresh take on indie music, personal stories that is heavy on self exploring. So this is the personal album one need to hear as they try to figure out what to do next or how to make sense of Egypt at the moment.

So you know when you go to a gym in the Arab world, and they play western music to pump people up? Now, gym operators can pump people and give them something different like that music Cairokee makes. Yet someone this album, is meant for the thinking man as well, promising you one thing, the sun will come out tomorrow and you will have hope.

Enjoy the tend tracks on the album, Cairokee and its lead challenge themselves and come up with what might be the first serious attempt at giving the Arab world, a real rock and roll album. I like the simplified Arabic the band uses.

This is band made for live experiences, they make the music as they go. I think I am ready to say it, Cairokee is the band to watch! They are sitting up the bar so high which makes other similar bands look band. Too bad the government in Egypt has repeatedly denied them a permit to hold a concert.

Do Good Looking People Make Karaoke Better?

For a Lebanese singer to book an in house studio that feels like an upbeat nightclub, it's not too hard. But for him to try doing a song in that mighty 90 million strong Egyptian dialect, it might take some brains. Many of us know new comer Sa'd Ramadan can sing as he has got that muse aided by his naturally sad honey laced voice.

And yes he is also good looking. I am a fan of his, but I do not think he needed to go hire some non-Arab dancers or Arab ones to make him look cool. If anything it shows his insecurities and his lack of class. Keep on mind, his biggest fans are women not dudes. It's good song for a pop song, and as you can tell in studio fans are thrilled.

Cairokee might as well be Egypt's most real band, their music is so heavenly good and their lyrics are loaded with meanings and beauty. Their second album is due soon, and they have a music video to get their fans and they are an excited.

The music video is pretty clever and presents something we rarely see in Arabic music video, personal struggle with demons. People with masks, the video does have a French feel to it and so does the get go music. This is a change for the band whose last songs were political and social, this time they are going for personal and life.

I have three cheers here, the first and the second go to the director of the picture, the same person who also wrote the lyrics--Amir Eid who chose the Egyptian city of Maadi to film his music video.

Consider this a song about the world famous hamster wheel and the dull routine that most of us live through on daily basis. Cannot wait to check out the album, I only wish Cairokee was given a permission to perform in the stadium as they had planned. I do not think the SCAF, that runs Egypt at the moment likes them very much.

Ali Hajjar And When The Prisoners Laugh

Ali Hajjar is one of the most notable vocalists in Egypt. The man with opera worthy voice has bee making visits to the house of opera for decades now. He has also been recording soundtrack songs for most famous Egyptian movies and TV shows. He even acted in some of them too.

He has many hit songs that are well known in Egypt, his  voice is the most recognizable voice in the Arabic entertainment. So when he saw the revolutionaries being imprisoned and tortured, even beat up in the streets he made a music video where he put himself in a cell and said all the things often cited by the revolutionaries to oppose the powers. The song is a work of poetry (the legendary abdel rahman Abanoody wrote it) and translated the laugh of the prisoners.

I did not know he was a revolutionaries but he really is one. When the 2011 revolution started he was in Spain, so he marched to the Egyptian embassies and protested. Then he has not give up on change yet.
