Thugs are a reality in Egypt and they rule the streets with their muscles, intimidation and weapons. Thugs and bullies are a reality in poor areas around Cairo, they serve a purpose. It's not an Egyptian phenomena organized crime is all over the world, but in Egypt things got easy for a while due to the absence of aw enforcement.  

An Egyptian movie seems to have done a fine job chronicling the life of one hell of a thug, a hero sometimes who indulges in a life of weapons, muscles, ladies and money. I shivered when saw this promo song with some shots form the movie that seems to keep it real

The actor is right for the job, he has figured the looks and the heart of the role. Music is a big part of thugs life, that's why the movie has had at least four original songs. I would want see this movie, the human emotions reflected by and the many characters in supporting role are amazing.

Here's Some Arabic Soul Music From Black Theama

This is not your average song, call it a prayer for the man who likes music and got soul. The slickest band in Egyptian marked at the moment is Black Theama. Black Theama is one of those bands that go global by staying local. While they release international music worthy of a global audience, they do not sing for people outside.

The perform like they would in their small town in Egypt. and this is the formula for success. You can try rap and rock too, but if you got no roots, you do not stand a chance. Check out the first video where the band is getting serious for a minute. The second one is for a popular song of theirs that was the title song for the 2009 blockbuster 1000 Mabrouk.

While Arabs Shame Belly Dancers, Non Arabs Dominate It

Everybody loves belly dancing, no body would want to be one. As far as Arab people go, it's a dead profession. And such belly dancer have became just another word for prostitute. So, who gives? The people around the world picked the dance and made it even sexier.

Go to any restaurant in Lebanon or a Moroccan restaurant, chances are the dancer is not Arab, but she appreciate the culture--which to her means belly dancing. Which was no surprise to me when I saw the video below about belly dancing festival in Lebanon and most of the stars were from Europe, Latin America and beyond. Few Arab belly dancers were also present.

Needless to say some mid aged bald guys with a sleazy personality showed up. Check out the belly dancers from Spain and Mexico who have been interviewed. The lady behind this event is a local belly dancer with the name of Amani.

My Dad Used To Jam To Syrian Fahad Blan

When it comes to Arabic Tarab, Syria does not kid around! Syria is the place where legends of this style of music has been made for centuries. Look no further than on of those underrated Syrian legends Fahad Blan. One of Fahad's most famous hits was a song where he is explaining his condition to his loved one.

Fahd passed away in 1997 not before he has made a huge name from hims and his family that comes from a little Syrian town where they used to do menial jobs. Fahad started his career doing odd jobs one of which a bus operator assistant. The bus used to travel to Damascus a lot where he would take part of a competition doing a cover of Syrian icon Farid Al Atrach.... needless to say he made a good impression.

The atis would join the Syrian radio and sing there, then he has his won songs and the rest is history. Fahad had many marriages including Lebanese diva Sabah. Fahabd used to open and present other legends of his time. He was considered one of the top ten artists in the Arab world in his time.

Hisham El Hajj is one of those rare Lebanese singers who is well known for his very strong voice--the mountain side voice if you will. He roars just like most Lebanese songs require. He also strikes me as a humorous guy who like a a laugh--it really shows in his music videos. There is no reason why more Lebanese concerts do not book Hisham and bring him to more music festival, in my book he is Mr. Lebanon, in the old school sense.

In his latest he likes girl by the pool side who has an iPad with internet connection so that he can sing her a video of him doing a song for her. Then she closes her eyes and there you go, they are together on the beach doing what young couples like to do.

It's a scenic music video rich with nature and the naturally scenic voice of Hisham wraps it all together. Hisham more often than not makes great choices and thus his lyrics and his music live up to the hype. He is a B list singer with an A list talent--marketing is a bitch.

I think the couple he chose for hims music video are a perfect fit for this song. The song is for the serious guys as it means business--you want to take the big step and tie the knot not fiddle around. I like the fake moon and the violin player.

Two Egyptian Dudes Duet عمرو قطامش ووائل عامر

Wael Amer and Amr Katamish teamed up to send a message to the next president of Egypt. Two different guys with two different interests joined forces on this song. One is a stand up comic with funny yet poetic lines and the other is a natural born activist who has been right more than one on the SCAF. I did not see this song coming and did not know that neither of these guys would work together.

But here we are and the two using one another to access the fan base of the other entertainer. Their message is clear, justice is the foundation of governance. You have a people and for those people there are squares--where they can protest. This is meant to be half funny half serious song.

I like this creative effort...Wael brings the mesmerizing vocals and Amr brings humor and a deep voice sprinkled with stylish flow.

Is Samo Zain Gays' Best Friend In Arabia?

First he did a music video with two dudes dancing and one telling the other...consider me your wife and then people got upset. Then comes a picture for Samo where he is sniffing a red rose and looking all dreamy in a way that gives a gay vibe. I do not think he is gay, but the music he chooses in romance and the way he tries to market himself for women makes him seem so.

Now, watch the latest music video for Samo, he is looking good and the music video is done in a creative way--it really is. First he is a Sultan with dancers trying to cheer him up...then comes the film crew and end the scene.

I love his voice in this song, you can tell he was really laughing or at least smiling as he recorded this song, Samo can be a funny guy and he seems to be able to look that in many of his music videos before. He is a sharp dresser too.

The color red is all over this clip, a red tattoo, a red dress, a red car...etc. The song does get sexula as the girl dances "I Know I'm Sexy". Samo's greatest achievement aside from singing the song is the music where he composed it and did a good job blending Tarab music with cooler musical elements.

A Tale Of A Citizen By Noha Taha Throwback To Old School Arabic Music

No other Arab county can turn out a new and exciting vocalist every day of the week year around as much as Egypt can. When you are in a country of 90 millions, you can do that. I am always amazed by the talent pool in entertainment Egypt has to offer.

One of the new voices I just stumped upon is named Noha Taha, a female vocalist with a voice that should be wrapped in gold. Noha composed and wrote the lyrics for the song she is performing, a tale of a citizen living under the emergency rule--it has just been lifted. Noha has also taken part of some activism as Egypt undergoes change.

I like the music and I love Eastern feel the song features. This is a song that sounds identical to songs they played in the radios during the 60s and 70s. Noha comes from a Jazz background. She is will studied in Arabic, English and French literature. And currently she takes part of two bands. Scorpionism a tribute for scorpions, and S.M.S band that is a mixture between art and life experience.

Balqees Fathi, One Of The Best Thing About Yemen

Yemen is an awesome place with history so deep and heritage so rooted in the land. No other pop star is rooted in the land of Yemen as much as new sensation Balqees Fathi is. She is the daughter of Yemen's most famous composer and singer Fathi Ahmed and she offers so much more than other can afford to. Her voice, and her lovable personality make me think, this is someone who was born to be a star.

Her work has not gone unnoticed, as she was named best young talent by the French fashion magazine L’Officiel at the 2012 L’Officiel Arab Woman Awards held at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort in Abu Dhabi.

She is young yet she is very talented and seems savvy in the business and musical choices she makes. She filmed her latest clip in Lebanon with a Lebanese crew, but the song is in the Gulf Dialect, she is not trying to be cute and sing Lebanese and Egyptian. She is very proud and I know she wants to make it big using only her local Dialect that brought her fame and cemented her status as a leading lady.

The song is about a jealous lover....and the struggle to stay sane. Hollywood got nothing on Balqees, she has those exotic looks, confidence and charm. She knows how to tease the camera and the fans at the same time, she has some dance moves...BUT she does it without disrespecting her conservative upbringing.

The Best Arabic Music Video You Will See This Year!

It takes a women to know what goes on the head of another woman, no guy can figure that out. That's why when you watch this music video you will know exactly what I mean. Rich guys tend to be obnoxious, busy and insensitive. In the video below Fayrouz seems to have married one and she fantasies about payback time. For that she goes all dark shadow on us and she escapes to that dark place to feel herself.

The part in her mind when she feels how her life is is AMAZING! The way the music video transitions from this richy rich into an empty dark room with a creep feel to it is done so well. I am surprised because the singer has also produced the music video...while she did not write the lyrics, she sings as she feels them. The goth feel reminds of a of many of those pictures Tim Burton makes.

The song does not hold bag and runs through a list of things she hates about this guy...I want to stop hating my body when I see the way you look at me, I am sick of your smoking, I want to wear my style and have my own friends. In reality however, she does not say a word and stays with the very same man that she despises.

Hisham Abbas And Computer CG In Helm Aziz

Arab filmmakers are still trying to figure out a way to make good CG work and incorporate it in films. Egyptian romance comedy flick Helm Aziz might go down as the first film to include crisp comuter generated graphics. The graphics are much better than we have scene in previous films and other music videos. They seem more elaborate.

This is a big budget film with Egyptian heartthrob Ahmed Aziz and Sharif Muneer the guy who does so well in complex characters. To promote the film, they have hired Hisham Abbas, a fixture of Arabic pop who seems to be MIA for the past 7 years or so.

This is not a great song, it's just fun to hear Hisham Abbas once again. His voice radiates happiness and a throwback.

This Song Lampoon The Brotherhood In Egypt

The song was supposed to market a movie, but someone thought the lyrics go well to explain to the common man the issue many have with the brotherhood or the Ikhwan. I am not one of those who fear them, I do not particularly care for them either.

I do think that they should do a better job explaining themselves and the things they can do for the country. Instead, they get caught in side fights about religious outfits and women matters. Anyhow, I think the song is funny and I think it speaks about all things Egyptian at the moment.

Love it or hate it, it's all about humor. People who have a sense of humor are the ones that matter, those who do not lugh, do not tend to live long. Hisham Abbas might not like that his video is bring used for this end, but something tells me, he would not be rooting for the brotherhood.

Zade was given the royal attention in the country of Jordan early on. With their help and his own unique talent he went on to become one of the most celebrated young piniest / composers in that country and beyond. In a one night engagement last year the young pianist accompanied by a world class orchestra to transform the historic venue into something magical.

Have you ever seen movie where the soundtrack blew you away? This is what feels like to watch and hear Zade's play the piano. He create an atmosphere where he can control people's mood with is careful strokes on the piano. His youth and good looks do help a great deal make him into a young star that he deserves to be. I do enjoy his confidence on stage without being too cocky.

Moustafa Amar Best Pop Song Ever Is "سكة العاشقين "

Or the Path of Lovers. It might be the most special and most personal song of this Egyptian singer's entire career. To begin understanding this song, Moustafa started his career as a composer, he was that hip kid everyone wanted to work with him. Then naturally, he started to sing and he made a lot of good choices in light pop songs that lived on and told us about this young, charming and good looking Alexandria boy.

Early on his career, he has found a song that will cement his career. It was a pop song unlike any other. For starter, it's close to 8 minutes long, so it's a story, not just two notes and chorus. The length of the music video allows us to watch back story for the music video about people falling in love.

I was listening to this song this morning, and I noted how the mood changes and so does the energy and the musical notes. This is a feature of American songs more so than Arabic pop ones. It plays like a guy talking to himself or thinking out loud about something and with that comes ups and downs. The story of a romance that can go bitter, but then things get sorted out. You will laugh, you will dance and you might tear up while this song plays.

Look at Moustafa and his youth, he had it back then and this song was every man's song...all the cool kids were singing it.

Teenage Dream is a global hit song that brought many fans and dollars to American songstress Katy Perry. Many did covers of this super catchy pop song, one cover rendered me speechless. It was done with a lute. It took a young Egyptian to bring this video to life.

Marwan Anwer is born in Egypt family from a Turkish origin. Marwan was taught the piano at age five. Later his old man taught him to play the lute. By age 12 he was good at both instruments. By 16 he has started to work with other instruments.

Marwan has appeared in a number of concerts along with his band at Abdul Moneim Al Sawi's culture wheel. His band is ‘EL MA7ATTAH BAND’--the station. Mawran plays the piano, violin and ney (flute) player. Enjoy this super awesome video....

I have known many Sudanese in my life and have come to appreciate them and their sense of humor. Contrary to what the norm says, they are among the most educated and brightest Arabs you will meet, some of them work all the way in NASA and make world class surgeons in various European capitals.

But this is about the other Sudanese, the ones who like to have fun, even if they are poor and have little talent. A song about a Sudanese who wants to get married because he sees everyone with a wife. The son cries to his father so that he can have a wife. He tried to clam him down.

Moustafa Amar released a cool album of 2010, the title song was catchy and dancey. Heya I remember jamming to it for a pop song it has all the right ingredient. The cool and fresh music that gets you to move while feeling it's the first time you hear such beat. The music video also was cool using many nice affects.

Then, there's the Moustafa Amar persona that we have missed, the cool kid who likes the company of cheerful ladies. He was upbeat and his closeups were something to remind you of his glory days in the 90s. Anyhow, months after the release of the album, the Arab Spring his hard and few could care less about pop albums.

The song did well in the lyrics flirting with all Arab women as the singer tried to figure out where this girl from....he takes a tour of the Arab countries and say she must be Libyan, Yemeni, Moroccan, Egyptian...etc. These songs tend to do well with the ladies who like a little shout out from the once ladies man Mousatafa Amar.

Since when are Arabs blondes? What is Marwan Kory trying to do in his latest music video? starring in a music video alongside a blonde who is showing plenty of legs? This was promised to be a good music video and it's. It's a very sincere romantic song too from the complete arts Marwan Khoury. He brother directed him in this picture in this bedroom heavy song.

I know Marwan said he will challenge himself in this music video, but I only see he went for more intimacy. A could are firs tin love and then something goes wrong, something goes missing and the relationship changes. This song is about the uncertainty phase of any given relationship. About covenants made and covenants not kept. The music video pulls something really interesting, it shows some of those cute moments that one loves.

Once again, Marwan sounds at his best, a man who knows and shows no limits in expressing his softer side to the entire world. He does however look too pale to me. I do like the closeup shots of him as he speaks to the camera with his blank eyes. Khory outdoes himself as he composed the lyrics and the music for this song. It's really better this way, if you are gifted it shows and makes your music much better.

Free Concert At A Delayed Canadian Airplane

Passengers in an delayed airplane in Toronto's International Airport, passengers were in for a treat. Most of us know what it feels like to be stuck in an airplane and going nowhere. You get no food and you might not be able to use your devices. This Air Canada plane was delayed for 20 minutes in the tarmac as they plane was heading to Bucharest.

On the plane there was a band "Lemon Bucket Orchestra", they were more than happy to cheer up the crowd for few minutes. This could only work for few minutes, because after that people might start getting irritated. I do happen to like the music style played by the band and I appreciate the passengers who got into it by clapping and dancing.

What a cool impromptu concert!
